Andersen Corporation: From Conception to Execution with the SM Roadmap
#Smart Manufacturing Certified Roadmap Professional #Smart Manufacturing Roadmapping #Manufacturer Story
Andersen Corporation, a window and door manufacturer founded in 1903 with more than 12,000 employees, used the CESMII Smart Manufacturing Roadmap to align IT, OT and supply chain around shared priorities. The result: a connected, organization-wide strategy and a repeatable blueprint for both new and legacy facilities.
The challenge. Andersen had been on its Smart Manufacturing journey for years, but leaders recognized that individual projects alone would not meet the company's growth goals. As it invests in new facilities and modernizes existing plants, it needed one connected strategy to better connect and analyze data and align operations.
The approach. The CESMII Roadmap framework brought structure and consistency to Andersen's strategic process. By engaging senior leadership up front and gathering perspectives from across the organization, the team moved beyond individual technology requests to focus on the business outcomes it wanted to achieve.
What changed:
- A common language around Smart Manufacturing, with clearer roles and ownership
- Investments prioritized by metrics and outcomes rather than individual technology opportunities
- Smart Manufacturing principles applied to new facilities and adapted for legacy environments
- Roadmap initiatives spanning low-cost pilots, training, agile project teams, supply chain efficiency and key partnerships
"This is a holistic framework that is built to last. Now we understand where we want to go with our Smart Manufacturing plan." Ben Adamson, Vice President of Advanced Manufacturing and Strategic Supply Chain Enablement, Andersen Corporation
